Try to use nothing but Federal primers. When they were difficult to obtain, I bought some Winchester, CCI and Wolf.
95 percent of the time or more, with Federals I have never had on “ignite” during priming and have only “crushed” a couple as I have used the Lee Auto Prime and prime the brass prior to putting it into the Dillon press.
Try the Federals for that gun only to ensure ignition.
I use the Federals, but just the “small pistol” version.
What kind of price are you paying for the “Gold Medal Match” version? They’re $6 more per 1000 than the regular price online from the regular Federals, and they’re already quite a bit more than CCIs.
Why aren’t you buying them from Duchon Defense?
10,000 CCI small pistol primers from PV will run you 285. That’s INCLUDING the $25 hazmat fee and $20 shipping. That comes out to $28.5 per 1000.
The Federal primers and that’s about all I have used since the early ’80s. Large pistol, small pistol, match large rifle and small rifle – they have all worked perfectly. I have no intention of buying anything else – as long as I can get Federal.
Besides, with the wars winding down, primers ought to start flooding the market. Maybe the prices will come down as well.
Federal are really nice. Easy to seat. Positive ignition in any gun. Good stuff. I am too cheap to pay for them. I have some left over from my revolver days. I may still use them some day.
I just built my mom a g17. Extra power return spring, connector, etc. No light weight for spring. It is a fine trigger like that. Not a huge loss to ditch the reduced power fp spring. My CC run with the reduced power spring. Nut if yours doesn’t I don’t know if I would pay extra for federal just to keep that one spring.
